Q
Tell me a little bit about yourself?
I’m a native of Northern Virginia and one of five children; I’ve lived in the Northern Neck since 2004 and have four daughters. I graduated from the University of Georgia and earned my MBS from the College of William and Mary. I own and operate Northern Neck Seamless and Northern Neck Fence Company. Prior to this, I managed the business development and marketing operations of Kellogg Specialist Trading Group on Wall Street focusing on New York Stock Exchange listed companies. My pastimes include sailing, golf (haha, I own clubs), running (I recently finished my 4th Richmond half marathon with my daughter), reading and biking. I have loyal (read as “needy”) black lab, “Janie” who is my constant companion. When not working, I spend my time with my daughters enjoying traveling, festivals, sports, ballet, homework, providing (receiving) advice, movies etc…..

Q
Tell me about your radio background?
This is extensive, at 9 years old my parents gave me my first clock radio, it was great. So I guess it is in my blood. I spent a couple of years as an account executive selling classic rock radio and it was great. Additionally, I hosted Saturday morning home improvement show in the Northern Neck and it was a lot of fun, unfortunately, it was canceled and replaced with a gardening show…

Q
What is it about radio that is appealing to you?
The beauty of radio is the imagination. Since no camera is present in the studio you have the opportunity to make the listener feel like a part of the show. I like to imagine hanging out in a cozy living room having a conversation with a friend. You want the listener to believe they are a part of the conversation…. Hopefully, they call in with a comment, complaint, idea….anything…you want to elicit an emotion.

Q
Why do you love music?
Songs create memories. It is a great feeling to hear an old song and be immediately taken back to your past. Usually, it’s a fun or happy memory but sometimes it is the sad one, either way, it sends you to that place so quickly…it powerful.

Q
Are there any music experiences you would like to share,
such as a concert that sticks out in your mind,
or meeting a favorite singer/songwriter?
Yes, in 1999 we were in New Orleans at Mardi Gras. We were guests at the Bacchus Crewe Ball. The Temptations were singing on stage and the band manager came down into the audience to ask my wife and I come on stage and sing with the Temptations. We were at the party with a group of friends who knew nothing about this. All of the sudden they looked up and saw us singing “My Girl” with the Temptations….the looks on their faces was unforgettable.

Q
I find that people really connect to music because of a memory a song can evoke.

Please tell me the following:
What is your favorite song?
Not sure my favorite, but a great song nonetheless, we use to blast the song “Let My Love Open the Door”, Pete Townsend in our kitchen. The girls would go crazy and we would all run around kitchen island singing as loud as we could and laughing.

A favorite song from childhood?
Just about any Beach Boys song. Every summer we would go hear them on Washington Mall for 4th of July and watch the fireworks.

Favorite love song?
Top five would be a Peter Gabriel song, perhaps “In Your Eyes”… Another great song is “Close to you” the Carpenters.

Favorite song to dance to?
“Don’t Rock the Boat”, definitely one of them

Favorite Disco song?
Duh, “Night Fever” the Bee Gees

Q
What is it about music, particularly oldies music, that moves you?
Well, I think it is funny now that “the oldies” are no longer my parent’s music but now mine……..I’m a huge classic rock fan.

We'd love to hear from you!
