It happened while I was driving one afternoon. It was a beautiful day, a turquoise sky with cumulus clouds, a day that fills you with happiness. The radio was on, volume turned low. Then the song began. I had never heard the song before, or if I had I had not paid attention, not like today. Quickly, I reached over and turned it up, loud. My reaction surprised me so much I pulled over to the side of the road.
Full disclosure here, I am one of those people who lives a bit too far out on the edge emotionally. I do cry quite easily and this song made me cry.
It also filled me with joy.
It was “Shambala” sung by Three Dog Night.
Now, for those of you who know the song, you know that the writer, Daniel Moore, was writing about “the mythical kingdom of Shambala, said to be hidden somewhere within or beyond the peaks of the Himalayas.”
Bear with me, but on that beautiful day, I could only think of Heaven. If I am lucky enough to go there one day, I feel the angels will sing this song to me, and they will sound like Three Dog Night. (I did tell you about that edge in paragraph two.) A few of the lyrics below:
Wash away my troubles, wash away my pain
With the rain in Shambala
Wash away my sorrow, wash away my shame
With the rain in Shambala
Everyone is helpful everyone is kind
On the road to Shambala
Everyone is lucky everyone is so kind
On the road to Shambala
How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala?
I can tell my sister by the flowers in her eyes
On the road to Shambala
I can tell my brother by the flowers in his eyes
On the road to Shambala
Simple and yet profound. I can tell my sisters by the flowers in their eyes. Yes, I believe I could tell. Next time you have a beautiful day and are driving, please play this song, then tell me about it. Or just watch the video below.
